One of the criminals being crucified with Jesus insults him, but the other defends him and asks Jesus to remember him when he comes into his kingdom. Jesus tells him that he will be with him in paradise. Jesus cries out in distress and then dies. The curtain in the temple is torn in two and an earthquake occurs. The women who had watched the crucifixion return home and prepare spices and ointments to anoint Jesus’ body.
